1984 called and wanted it’s ball back! Well not really, but kinda.
The other day I noticed something on the Golf Channel as I watched the  WGC Accenture Match Play….Tim Clark was playing a yellow ball….so I had to find out more. Turns out my Sony LCD 46″ flat screen Tv in it’s HDTV glory wasn’t pulling a Merv..Srixon, a funny name for the World’s Largest manufacturer of golf balls, indeed has a line of yellow golf balls. The Srixon Z-Star and Z-Star Tour have color options!  Now these are not your fathers Top-Flite XL’s.

What is a Srixon?

Srixon is actually a GIANT in the golf industry. Back in 2000 I first tried a couple of balls and was impressed, but they didn’t have the name of a Titleist or Callaway. Now it seems, the funny name is playing serious. Srixon is made up from SRI-Sumitomo Rubber Industries, X-Unlimited, Dreams for the Future, ON-Going Onwards. Sumitomo Rubber Industries is one of the largest makers of Golf Balls in the world….They are Dunlop everywhere else in the world except the US. Srixon also owns Cleveland Golf and Never Compromise Putters as of 2007.

And how about the Ball?

Final Thoughts

Well I’m in…I’ve been waiting for a high performance ball in YELLOW..(um check out my logo, and my first car was…yep) Seriously I think this is something to note. A major manufacturer comes out an makes a golf ball in a color other than white. It could mean the end of dominance by Titleist as it’s stranglehold on the Upper Tier golfer erodes.  I mean if the ProV’s are $50 a dozen and these are $40 a dozen, especially this year, people will change. And that’s not a bad thing.
I’ll be getting a dozen of the Srixon Z-Stars (in yellow!) and will do a proper review…who knows if things go well then the next ball might be orange!
